Find out what Sparks Joy for You!

November 02, 2020

Finde heraus, was Dir Freude macht!

Every morning isn’t it always the same story? You open up the wardrobe, and it seems like there is nothing inside that you want to wear. Or it takes way too long to put together an outfit that you're halfway satisfied with.

Evenings can be just as stressful. It irritates you when people say how much they looooove cooking! People are posting that chopping vegetables relaxes them as they post gorgeous photos of elaborate, creative meals. But for you, dinnertime is just stressful. Your fantasy of exploring your true creativity through cooking has been poured down the drain, along with the dregs of this morning’s coffee. Where are those family dinners where everyone relaxes around the table, talking about the day and laughing together?

If you find that these ordinary parts of everyday home life feel like daunting battles to fight through, you are not alone.

But what if we could turn these daily, stressful situations into precious and rewarding moments? Really, it is possible that your daily activities can stop causing you anxiety and become a source of joy for you and your family.

The very best way to start having an everyday life that you enjoy is easier than you think. You begin by decluttering and organising your home.

Clutter

Most of us tend to collect so many things throughout our lives. We save them in the attic, in the cellar, in the garage, in storage spaces. Our homes are often filled with things we don't even know we have anymore.

A big hurdle to getting rid of clutter is that we hang on to the past or are afraid of the future.

We think thoughts like:
I don't need it but should I keep it in memory of …
It might come in handy…
I'll hang on to it just in case...

These thoughts fog our clarity. We can't see what we need, what will satisfy us, or what we're seeking.

But also it doesn't have to be that deep. Maybe you just want to have a daily life that runs more smoothly.

Maybe you don’t mind cleaning your house, but you don't want to have to pick up and rearrange objects before you dive into the scrubbing and dusting. You don’t want to have to shuffle so many things around to get to the surfaces you need to clean.

When you get dressed in the morning, you want to be able to see your clothes and to quickly choose from a collection of pieces that you love wearing.

The same with dinner time, you want to come home after work and enjoy the evening with your family, without having to turn the kitchen upside down first.

Tidy up your house following the KonMari Method ™™ auf

Since I was a young girl, I've had an inclination towards organising my surroundings. It has always made me feel so calm to have clear spaces. Some people shook their heads at me in amusement, but I remained determined in my organising even when others lifted their eyebrows.

Later on in life, I found out that I'm not the only one that finds organised spaces calming. It is even scientifically proven to be true that sparse spaces have a calming effect on most of us, and researchers at the Princeton University Neuroscience department found that multiple stimuli in the visual field – such as objects lying around – compete for your brain's attention. Yay, I'm not crazy after all!

When I found the Japanese tidying expert Marie Kondo and her bestselling books about tidying - The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying - I was jumping for joy. She explains it all so well! She describes not just how to go about working the process of decluttering, but also the effect it can have on your life in general.

The KonMari Method™ encourages you to reevaluate our relationship with your possessions. When you finish your decluttering journey, you feel lighter and more decisive.

You learn how to trust your instincts and let go of things with gratitude, keeping only what sparks joy.

This decisiveness spreads to all areas of your life.

KonMari Consultant in training

This is why I so wholeheartedly suggest the KonMari Method™ to declutter and organise your home.

I am currently working towards becoming a certified KonMari Consultant. At the moment, I am a KonMari Consultant in training because I am enthusiastic about helping others to clear out their homes in a practical, as well as spiritual way so that they can enjoy their everyday lives.

I know there are a million books on how to improve your everyday life that cover all kinds of topics: how to deep clean, how to create healthy routines, how to break bad habits, how to build good habits, how to recycle more, how to compost, how to eat healthy. Maybe you have already purchased or read a lot of these books, even the KonMari books! Maybe you found them inspiring and enjoyable, and you learned a lot from reading them. The problem is that you haven't actually implemented any of the suggested tools or ideas.

It all sounds so good in theory, but it’s so easy to put it off for another day. Sometimes, maybe you need a little help. A gentle nudge from another person can provide the accountability and encouragement that you need in order to integrate ideas about decluttering and organising into your real life.

I would love to help you if you would like some support in discovering how to organise in a way that sparks joy..
