Holiday chill with stars

Weihnachts Chill mit Stars

Yes, guilty as charged!

I like to flick through gossip magazines and check out what our celebrities are up to. It can be useful if you want to empty your brain and suck in trivialities for one simple reason: to chill and relax.

But then sometimes I find I'm not so relaxed after all, I just get so irritated from all the meaningless garbage I'm reading.

Like, who cares if Aniston cut her hair or if so-and-so slept with his sister’s son’s girlfriend or if this one had her 10th plastic surgery. And all the royals who are supposed to be good examples, seem to be screwing around and wasting public money, which seems to be fine because they can do whatever they please.

Honestly, after first wanting to have a relaxing and brain-free hour or so, I just feel like puking, and I regret that I bought the silly magazine at all.

An exception to the rule

But there is always an exception to the rule, like with Princess Diana. She was one of the pioneers to use her fame to shift the spotlight away from herself to significant and essential causes.

She made people aware of the problem with landmines in Africa, where she personally helped with searching for them. And she visited hospitals and people with Aids, where she spent time with them, talking to them and touching them to remove the stigma around the disease.

Following in Diana's spotlight footsteps

Many other celebrities have followed in Diana’s footsteps, and they are not shy to highlight problems and causes that need attention and action.

Just to mention some examples: Paul McCartney, Pamela Anderson, Moby, Joaquin Phoenix, Alicia Silverstone, Woody Harrelson, Miley Cyrus, Liam Hemsworth, Stella McCartney, James Cromwell, Natalie Portman, James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Novak Djokovic, Lewis Hamilton and many many more! Isn't that fantastic!?

It’s so refreshing to read about these celebrities’ endeavours. This is the relaxing reading I was looking for!

The last four ones mentioned above have recently done a movie - The Game Changers - together with even more sports celebrities.

Here’s the official introduction to this film:

The Game Changers is directed by Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Louie Psihoyos and executive produced by James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic and Chris Paul, The Game Changers tells the story of James Wilks – elite special forces trainer and the ultimate fighter winner – as he travels the world on a quest to uncover the optimal diet for human performance. Showcasing elite athletes, special ops soldiers, visionary scientists, cultural icons, and everyday heroes, what James discovers permanently changes his understanding of food and his definition of true strength.

The movie shines a light on athlete role models, both male and female, in all different sports such as: world’s strongest man competitions, marathon running, football, tennis, Formula 1 racing and others. And as a Formula 1 watcher (influenced by my racing-fan husband), I am so happy the super role model Lewis Hamilton became world champion again, for the 6th time!

Make a pause in your Christmas preparation

So my suggestion is to take a well-deserved break one evening and watch some celebrities on a mission. Grab some popcorn, curl up on the sofa, make yourself cosy like you would be in a movie theatre and give it a watch: The Game Changers, on Netflix (or iTunes, Vimeo).

You’ll get so inspired and will probably have some idéas for your upcoming New Year’s Resolutions in place.

Relax and enjoy this more fruitful celebrity «gossip».
